I am a self-taught textile artist living in Oklahoma City, OK. I share a fiber studio at ARTSPACE At Untitled with friends and I am involved with the Mentorship Program at ARTSPACE, teaching and sharing what I have learned in my lifetime of curiosity and play with fabric and stitch.
Learning to sew Barbie clothes with my grandmother at an early age started my love of fabric and stitch. Growing up I made my clothes, and the fabric often included flowers. I love nature and it was showing up in my fabric choices. As an adult, I began making quilts, continuing my love of textiles, and in 2018 I began to consider myself an artist. Hand stitching is often seen in my work along with occasional mixed media from found objects. I enjoy the process of my art which includes spending time in nature as I prepare my fabric for cyanotype printing, often using plants as my object to print. I’ve used commercial quilting cottons for my quilts and still sometimes use them in my artwork, but the use of fabric that I have hand dyed, or printed gives me the most satisfaction, along with repurposing fabrics from clothing. My hope is that my work will tell a story of joy found in the beauty of nature, life, and imagination through fabric, color, and stitch.
