Luis Macias

Tulsa, OK

ree

Luis, a self-taught artist, has been creating art since his high school years. Currently, he dedicates his time to the art studio at Tulsa’s Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges.

As a visually impaired artist, Luis selects materials that resonate with his sensory perception. He incorporates found objects, wood, fabric, glass, ceramics, and numerous other materials into his paintings, mosaics, stained glass, reliefs, and sculptures. Essentially, Luis utilizes any available materials that enable him to express his profound connection to nature and evoke a sense of joy. He is particularly drawn to depictions of flowers and animals that evoke feelings of happiness and tranquility within him.

Art, according to Luis, serves as a stabilizing force in his life. Engaging in visual art assists him in maintaining focus, concentration, and self-expression, bypassing the reliance on verbal communication or sight. As a Mexican-American artist who grew up in Tulsa, Luis aspires to connect with viewers on a deeper level by conveying the textures, shapes, and emotional resonance of his artwork. He is interested in challenging conventional notions of how art is perceived and experienced.

Luis has exhibited his work at Tulsa Community College’s Please Touch the Art and at the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges.
