Wesley Luster
OKC, OK
Wesley Luster is an artist ingrained in traditions of folk art, portraiture, and music as his self taught technique results in paintings exploring personal identity, memory, rhythm and cultural heritage. Focusing on lived narratives of Black, Indigenous and Latinx people, fleeting global cultural themes reflect his own mixed heritage. A practice deeply personal and community-oriented, bridging gaps between DNA memory, historic and contemporary expression. His lineage traces to Bert Luster, whose account of 1800s Oklahoma slavery gives deep connection to the past, and Melvin Luster, whose socio-economic impact in Deep Deuce is cemented in Oklahoma history. This ancestral narrative in tandem. with experience organizing youth mural programs and initiatives like the Boley Rodeo Art Initiative, affirm his commitment to celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of our BIPOC communities. His podcast, Integrated OKC, formed a platform which aims to amplify voices of emerging artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs. Thus reinforcing his mission to document and share stories that shape collective identity. These stories inspire his painting practice in an infinite feedback loop of creation.
