Fall Papermaking 101 Workshop

This is a two day workshop that introduces the student to the fascinating medium of handmade paper and gives them a variety of techniques to try out the new medium.  During the first day, students will learn about the history, differing fibers that may be used and basic sheet formation and make several papers that can be used in a variety of ways.  We will learn how to make different shapes of paper, pressing and drying the paper. Then we will break for lunch while the paper is in the press.  After lunch we will learn about pigmenting paper to obtain different colors of pulp.  We will also make larger sheets by laminating different paper pulps together.  Students will learn how to use pulp trailing and stenciling techniques and end up with several paper artworks.  Ending the first day with air drying the papers in the drying rack.  The second day we run the small works through the etching press flattening the paper and embossing techniques.  Then we end the workshop with free time to pursue more of whatever the student would like to pursue.
