This exhibit is a collection of photographs taken during the last three years. Photojournalistic in nature, they depict scenes from gun violence protests, anti-abortion protests, Planned Parenthood protests, Trump rallies, Black Lives Matter rallies and more, and address the current polarization of the country. My intent is to bring images of these events to an audience that has limited knowledge of them and otherwise would not experience them, and to reveal humanity to humanity in a manner that words alone cannot express.
Tulsa native Michael McRuiz received his BFA in painting in 1976 and his MA in painting in 1986, both from the University of Tulsa. He studied art education at Northeastern State University in 1990-91. He retired from Tulsa Community College in 2019 where he was Assistant Professor of Digital Media, where he developed and taught courses in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, digital photography, analog photography, and drawing. Prior to his tenure at TCC he taught photography, digital media, and art courses at Union High School and Broken Arrow High School. He was a photojournalist for the Tulsa World from 1991-1995. His work has been represented in numerous exhibitions, publications, and competitions, including the PX3 Prix de la Photographie Cometition in Paris where he received an honorable mention award in 2017.
