FIREFLIES: A CRONES' TALE II: The wisdom and survival of crones, older women, and elder women, are often overlooked after we have stopped being of breeding age. Some have experienced invisibility, neglect, shunning, and partnership breakups because of the natural process of aging. We have also experienced artistic, personal and spiritual growth. This show will be a celebration of Fireflies - artists lined up who are all over 55. Photography, spoken word, painting, pottery, jewelry, fiber arts, food arts.

Curator's Statement:
This is the second year for Fireflies, a visual and performing arts show honoring and showcasing women artists and performers over 55. The first year for Fireflies over thirty artists and twenty five performers were invited based on my knowledge of their work and their histories as artists and as women. We all have stories to tell, and after many seasons as mothers, artists, sisters, daughters, aunts, and grandmothers, our stories begin to intertwine with each other on many levels. The work represented in this exhibit shows where these artists are in this moment artistically, spiritually, socially, and personally.
The term "Fireflies" was selected to represent us because we are in the twilight of our lives -- but still shining and lighting the way for our sisters.

An entertaining and revelatory "secret history" of Feminist Art, !Women Art Revolution that deftly illuminates this under-explored movement through conversations, observations, archival footage and works of visionary artists, historians, curators and critics. Starting from its roots in 1960s antiwar and civil rights protests. the film is by Lynn Hershman-Leeson who shot interviews with great artists and stars Miranda July, Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic, Judy Chicago and many of the other great Feminist Women Artists who fought for their rights.
