Call for Art:

January 10 - February 8, 2020

Juried by Steve Liggett

The juror comments: "I just cannot stand by and not offer a forum for the art community to have a say about the insanity of this President who I believe is leading the bottom-line-thinking-sheep of this country to the slaughter and corrupting our democracy with his lies, his hate and his greed.  This is the art community's opportunity to take a stand and to create artworks that voice their opposition to this madness.  This juried exhibition will focus on the connection between the world of "Big Brother" and the world of today.  Open to all media and disciplines.  Entries due Dec 15. 2019.

Oklahoma participates in a community/international project depicting some of the inane, insane and outrageous things that Donald Trump has said or tweeted by using textiles that embody warmth, craft, permanence, civility, and a shared history. The daintiness and strength of each piece stands in a stark contrast to his presidency.  Liggett Studio will host a couple of "stitch & bitch" embroidery workshop sessions for anyone who would like to learn how to do simple embroidery work and at the end of the exhibit, each piece will be sent to the curator, Diana Weymar, who will then add our works with others across the world and plans to exhibit 2020 artworks.

In the words of Ann Weisman, the juror, "When I think of these times we are living in, I often feel anger and despair. Then I remind myself that it is important to remember the truth in loving.

In January 2017, I heard Andrew Harvey speaking about where we are, in the 3rd stage of Kali’s upheaval, in the Kali Yuga, the time of strife, discord, ego, and materialism. He said we must allow ourselves to be overwhelmed in order to allow the mystery of Kali to penetrate. That we cannot know and must stay in unknowing; then every moment is a miracle. We participate in divine resistance and sustain a level of loving activism, where we dance in awe and celebrate community.

To celebrate our planetary community, I invite artists from across Oklahoma to create works (word, image, both) individually or collaboratively that celebrate the relatedness of all beings and forms on this planet. Works may be 2- or 3-d visual art. Collaborations between wordsmiths and visual artists are especially encouraged.

As you think about submitting a piece for this exhibit, please keep these words in mind. You may interpret any of them artistically or include any of the in your piece or simply be inspired by one. All pieces must reflect the theme, "We Are All Related."
