ASSEMBLAGE WORKSHOP

FEB 22 & 23

With Bill Derrevere. 10am-4pm

February 22 & 23, 2025, 10am – 4pm -  With Bill Derrevere $100  at Liggett Studios

Assemblages and I go back many decades.  My first ones came about when I drove Highway 66 from Tulsa to Oklahoma City.  In the small towns I would find remains of houses or roofs torn off, cedar shaken with stenciled lettering.

I have always gravitated to oxidized materials, wood with worn paint, metals with rust or oxidation.  I also enjoy finding things on the streets of Tulsa or in antique malls – pieces and parts that are unique.

So, in this workshop, collecting needs to start way before the workshop takes place.  Looking for used plywood and Masonite, discarded thin metal – preferably painted, scrap sheets of copper or brass, tin, galvanized material with character.

Some junk is just junk.  Look for material that can be added to make one whole statement.  We don’t want to stick stuff together without a reason.

We will need:

  • all sorts of nails, brads, tacky brass headed, galvanized 1 ½”

  • Rubber, materials from car mats

  • Wooden broom handles

  • Advertising tins,

  • Food cans from foreign foods – Asian, Mexican – enameled labels and cans

  • Pop caps from wonderful beers – Lone Star caps are great, but no Bud or Coors!

  • Need tubes of acrylic paint & medium – glossy or matt

  • Lattice strips,

  • Nail sets

  • Hammers, riveting hammers if you have them

  • Coping saws

  • Wood files.

***No refunds if you cancel less than 48 hours before the workshop***
